3 Main Types of Air Pollutions

Have you ever heard of Air Pollution? It’s known as Killer of The Earth.
This blog is to notify information to reader about air pollution in the world.

Air pollution is a mixture of solid particles and gases in the air. Two main causes of air pollution are Industrial development and Transportation. These have many effects such as causing illness, damaging buildings, crops, and wildlife and speeding up global warming. These bad effects due to air pollution have long been recognized as a threat to human health.

Transportation affecting air Pullution

As cities and industrial centers grows in both number and size due to industrialization and increase in population of earth, the need to different types of transportation also increases. Transport Related Air Pollution is type of air pollution that is characterized due to the smoke emitting by different types of vehicles used for transportation. As fuel such as petrol or diesel burnt in the engine can emit different types of poisonous gases in the form of smoke. Except human-powered and animal powered, all modes of transportation help air pollution intensify. The pollutants made by terrestrial and urban transport systems form the majority of this type of air pollution.

Carbon monoxide - a colorless and odorless poison, it is a gas produced when fuel incompletely burned in engines, furnaces and space heaters. A major source of this is the Vehicles.

Carbon Dioxide - a produced by normal combustion (burning). Although it is not a serious pollutant, it is believed that the continuous build up of this gas in the atmosphere could cause what they call a -“green house effect" by reducing the flow of heat from the earth back into the space, thus causing a possible warming of the earth.

Nitrogen oxide - are mildly poisonous brown gas. These are produced in automobile engines and other devices where combustion takes place. Gas ranges are a major source of nitrogen oxides.

Hydrocarbon pollutant - produced by unburned fuel and is emitted mostly by motor vehicles. This contributes to smog.

Industrial Air Pollution “The Manufacturer of Destruction”

We often describe, emphasize or even sing about air and how imperative air is. Air is absolutely essential, but why polluting the ever great vitality of air? To non-other fulfil the satisfaction of men?
Industrial Revolution is what matters. Ever since the golden ages of the 18th to the 19th century, the metamorphosis has become one of the most significant event ever happened in the timeline of mankind. I mean, everyone would want to have a least problematic and a convenient regime, do we? where there is better existence of transportation systems, life sources and etc.  However, realize that there will be the aftermath for every episode and it might not be what is expected to be when time flies.

We cannot deny that, the industrial sector plays this protagonist role in the lives of many but, it may also be the antagonist for its outcome. Air pollutions occurred relevantly regarding this sector isdue to the rapid growth and development of industrial power houses, basicallyto run the marathon towards the incoming future (1). Therefore with more industrial factories and/or power houses comes more profits, national incomes, conveniences and not to mention air pollution. Wondering why do these kept on going without control? Awareness, is it there among the big boys of the industrial sector? Or just buying in the plain old table of ignorance?

This is the part where we would like to emphasize about the aftermath of industrial air pollution. The “after-burn” that people would suffer, even doctors could find a pretty hard time working on it. Health is what kept us going until the very end. However, air pollution would catalyze the process to see-the-light in no time. The illness includes eye cataracts, respiratory diseases (bronchitis, pneumonia, lung cancer, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease [COPD], cardiovascular diseases (heart failure, heart-rhythm disorder, coronary artery disease) and sometimes genetic mutation plus growth disorder (2). Basically, sources of these defects are due to the air we always breathe contaminated with chemical dust and gas which will be dominating the atmosphere that will occasionally affect the food sources for human intake (3). Addition to the sum, ”the great outdoors” will no longer be great for the unbalance affection of the ecosystem and no place would be safe for any outside on-goings. Where are the “Supers” when we need them?!

However, there would be remedies for the sick-old Mother-Earth and we as guardians/settlers are there to make it real. Engineering of “green” machinery systems and maintenance like chemical dust filters, dynamic and wet collectors, electrostatic precipitators and etc (5) for a cleaner industrial work as wells as the manufacturing of recyclable and reused products. Human voice-outs enable the repossession of a cleaner surrounding by simply setting up eco-friendly events and demonstration or basically founding anti-pollution organizations (4) by taking actions (large and small scale clean-ups) and taking part in global projects for air pollution control.

 What is Green House Effect?

It is a process by which thermal radiation from a planetary surface is absorbed by atmospheric greenhouse gases, and is re-radiated in all directions. Since part of this re-radiation is back towards the surface, energy is transferred to the surface and the lower atmosphere, thus causing the planetary surface to increase in temperature and becoming hotter than the usual. Greenhouse gases are gases in atmosphere that absorbs and emits radiation within the thermal infrared range, the most common one are water vapor, carbon dioxide, ozone, nitrogen oxide, methane and chlorofluorocarbon(CFC).

What Causes Green House Effect?

The major factor would be human kind. One of the man-made causes is the deforestation. Deforestation increases the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere because there are fewer trees to absorb the excess carbon dioxide gas on earth. Besides, the disappearance of trees results in fewer trees undergoes photosynthesis process which helps in lowering the temperature on earth. The levels of deforestation have increased by about nine percent in recent times. Also, the burning of wood causes it to decay releasing more carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.

The burning of fossil fuel, gasoline, oil and coal are also one of the man-made causes. These actions produces large amount of carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxide and methane gases which affect in the thinning of ozone layer. Emission of chlorofluorocarbon gas by some electric applications such as refrigerator and air-conditional is also one of the causes that caused greenhouse effect.

The Effects of Green House Effects

An effect of greenhouse effect is the sea level rise. The world’s oceans have risen 4-8 inches. That may not sound like much, however ,a modest rise in sea levels would effect greatly to the world. This is caused by the growing of atmospheric gases which prevents the heat absorbed by Earth from losing its energy freely back into space. This radiation is absorbed by the atmosphere and partially broadcoast to the ground. The temperature rise will melt the mountain glaciers and polar ice caps in Greenland and Antarctica will increases the sea amount.

Ways to reduce greenhouse effect

Reducing burn of fossil fuels would considerably reduce the amount of carbon dioxide produced, as well as reducing the nitrous oxide and methane which cause acid rain. This can be achieved by either using less energy altogetherliketurn off lights when you leave a roomwhich able to reduce greenhouse effect.

Planting a tree is another way to reduce the greenhouse effect, plants absorb CO2 (CO2 is a greenhouse gas, the more trees and other plants that are around drawing in CO2)
from for photosynthesis.
